Analysis Of Internet Voting In India

Internet voting can further boost democratic setups by facilitating voting from anywhere around the world. It provides a solution to the voting issues of service voters, NRI voters and domestic migrant voters. Many countries are exploring the concept of Internet voting but have various security concerns. However Estonia and Switzerland have successfully implemented Internet voting in their mainstream politics. With the recent push towards "Digital India" with higher Internet penetration, proactive citizens and emergence of new technologies India should also start pursuing Internet voting in a mission mode. We present the design of an Internet voting portal including the server and database implementation. We analyze the portal and present various types of issues related to Internet voting systems. We discuss SQL injection attacks and the design of a positive tainting based countermeasure for Internet voting systems. We present its vulnerabilities and the possible future initiatives related to Internet voting systems.
