A Quality Evaluation Model for Hardware-Control Software

Software quality evaluation is essential to ensure high quality software products. ISO/IEC has defined evaluation methods for the quality of software products and provided common standards. Existing software quality evaluations based on the ISO/IEC standard have been mainly focused on software products at the application level. In this paper, we derived a software quality evaluation model for system level software that controls hardware devices. Especially, we developed the quality evaluation metrics to evaluate the system software for the software-defined radio transmitter control. To deduct evaluation metrics, we extracted requirements based on the operating environment, application areas, and operating characteristics of the SDR operating software. We concreted the software quality evaluation model with evaluation metrics and their corresponding weights.
