•First evidence of direct tuberculosis (TB) transmission between goats and sheep.•Infected goats and sheep may hinder bovine TB eradication programs.•Testing and laboratorial characterization of such TB domestic reservoirs is recommended when risk of interaction with cattle or wildlife is evidenced.
