Method and user-friendly app for characterization of transformers at high frequency

As new technologies keep evolving towards the More Electric Aircraft concept in the aeronautics industry, the use of power electronics devices is increasing exponentially in accordance with the increasing demand of electric power on board. In order to reduce weight and volume of power converters, their frequency of operation is continuously increasing. As a result, electromagnetic compatibility problems become increasingly important. Since transformers are a key component of most topologies of power converters, the main goal of this research is to develop a fast and simple method for obtaining the parameters that characterize the behavior of transformers at high frequencies. The method is implemented as an user-friendly app: TrafUS, that calculates and graphically shows values and results in an interactive way. Different types of transformers have been measured and the result provided by the high-frequency circuit model obtained are compared with measurements.
