Influence of fuel injection method on performance of upward swirl can-type combustor

•Fuel injection system of upward swirl can type gas turbine combustor is modified.•Performance of existing system and reverse fuel injection systems are assessed.•Combustion efficiency and emission level are correlated to fuel burning rate.•Reverse fuel injection provides rapid mixing and better fuel penetration.•Thermography reveals rise in wall temperature when injector length is increased.
