Effect of shot-peening on the fretting wear and crack initiation behavior of Ti-6Al-4V dovetail joint specimens

•Ti-6Al-4V dovetail joint specimens were used in the experiments.•Fretting fatigue wear mechanism and crack initiation behaviors were investigated.•Shot-peening changed the fretting regime and fretting wear mechanism.•Shot peening reduced the type and number of crack initiation.•Crack initiation inclinations were theoretically analyzed.
