Resilience of soil nutrient availability and organic matter decomposition to hurricane impact in a tropical dry forest ecosystem

•We examined resistance of nutrient availability and litter decomposition to two hurricanes.•We tested recovery between both hurricanes and interactions with land-cover type.•Litter decomposition and nutrient availability were in general not resistant to the hurricanes.•Nutrient availability and litter decomposition rates recovered but litter quality did not.•Land covers differed less than expected and we found overall resilience to the first hurricane.
