摘要

•1A turn-on fluorescent sensor based on BODIPY-hemicyanine conjugate was developed for CN− detection in aqueous media.•Nucleophilic addition between CN− and indolium group was verified as the sensing mechanism for this approach.•The sensor showed excellent sensitivity for CN− and could reach equilibrium instantaneously in aqueous media.•The sensor was successfully applied to detect CN− in real water samples and on the test paper strips.
