Five-year history of dysphagia as a sole initial symptom in inclusion body myositis

•sIBM patient manifested dysphagia as an isolated symptom for five years prior to the limb weakness.•Video-fluoroscopic examination revealed upper esophageal sphincter dysfunction.•sIBM should be considered as a differential diagnosis in elderly patients with dysphagia.
