Annual dynamics and resilience in post-fire boreal understory vascular plant communities

•Wildfire is an important disturbance in boreal forests but this regime is changing.•We describe annual changes in plant communities in post-fire boreal forests.•Most species established within 3years post-fire.•Forest type, then burn severity, were important drivers of vascular plant communities.•These forest communities are currently resilient and rapidly establish after fire.
