A decentralized voltage regulation method for DC distribution system with self-consumption characteristic

This paper presents a decentralized voltage regulation method for an emerging concept of DC distribution system with self-consumption characteristic. The purpose of the proposed control scheme is to achieve reliable system operations and maintain the bus voltage in a stable range, with all internal energy being consumed or saved in the system. Multiple converters under the proposed control take turns to regulate bus voltage based on system operation modes classified by DC bus signaling concept. With the classified system modes, each converter controller can figure out its own operating mode via individual control loop and operate coordinately without high-rank controller and communication link. A laboratory scale DC distribution system has been built for verification and the effectiveness of the proposed work has been proven by short-term transient response and long-term system operation tests.
