Effect of aldosterone antagonists on common carotid artery’s intima-media thickness, stiffness indices and flow mediated vasodilatation of brachial artery in CAD patients

•Spironolactone and eplerenone, both were effective in reducing blood pressure.•Both treatments reduced levels of inflammatory markers (hsCRP and TNF-α).•Both were not effective in improving endothelial function.•Both treatments did not reduce progression of carotid IMT and stiffness indices.•Eplerenone was not found more effective than spironolactone or vice-versa.
