Family History For Brca1 And Brca2 Mutations In Patients With Pancreatic Cancer: An Observational, Population-Based Study.

e15236 Background: Although germline BRCA2 mutations, and to a lesser extent BRCA1 mutations, are associated with an increased risk of pancreatic cancer (PC), the influence of BRCA mutations on family history (FH) and clinical characteristics of PC patients is less elucidated. Methods: A clinical database review from two Genetic Oncology Services of the Emilia Romagna Region (nothern Italy) identified 25, non-Ashkenazi, Italian families in which at least one patient with PC had at least one first-degree relative with BRCA-associated breast and/or ovarian cancer. Results: A total of 31 PC patients (male/female ratio: 1.21) were evaluated. Median age at diagnosis was 66 years (range 33-91); 19 (61%) patients were diagnosed with metastatic disease. Ten (32%) patients having at least one first-degree relative with PC were considered familial pancreatic cancers (FPC), while 21 (68%) with no FPC clustering were considered sporadic (SPC).
