摘要

•The feasibility of detecting an EMCD signal with a vortex filter mask is discussed.•The dichroic signal of ferromagnetic cobalt is estimated on theoretical grounds.•It is shown that magnetic dichroism can, in principle, be detected.•A trial experiment shows that the SNR is ten times too low for EMCD detection.
