•Pr and Ti co-doped Strontium Ferrite is successfully used as hydrogen electrode of SOEC.•A unit cell with PSTF hydrogen electrode exhibits excellent electrochemical performance for steam electrolysis.•Mass transport is the main rate-limiting step of PSTF electrode for steam electrolysis.
