Efficient synthesis of isoindoles using supercritical carbon dioxide

•Bicyclopyrroles were converted to the corresponding isoindoles in supercritical CO2.•By adding ethylene gas as an oxygen scavenger, the isoindole yield was further improved.•This synthesis method provides a new methodology for the synthesis of isoindole derivatives.
