•Temperature of laser-scanned Ag ink is obtained by numerical simulation.•Physical properties are highly affected by surface microstructure of the laser-sintered ink.•Intense energy can produce defects such as pores and cracks in the microstructure of the ink.•Temperature is a key parameter for the evolution of the microstructure of the ink.
