•Complex dielectric function for InP evaluated from 0.038–8.5eV.•Urbach energy incorporated into optical property model.•Ten higher energies critical points are identified up to 8.5eV.•Infrared phonon mode detected.•Electrical transport properties from ellipsometry agree well with Hall effect.
