Assessment of Arm Port Access Events for 2 Different Port Designs

•The introduction of a new infusion device can effect patient quality of care and safety.•Infusion ports have different designs, sizes and shapes.•These differences in size, shape and other features may make some ports easier, or more difficult, to access with a non-coring needle.•Some ports can accept the power injecting of fluids while others cannot safely do so.•The ability to identify if a port can be power injected, or not, is an important nursing role that requires training and education.
