Patient health value strength predicts compliance, but internalised health values predict outcome, in physiotherapy treatment for pelvic floor dysfunction

摘要
Relevance: Around 25% of adult females are affected by a pelvic floor condition, and the NICE recommended first-line treatment is pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT), which is effective, acceptable to patients, and cost efficient. However, PFMT outcomes are dependent on patient engagement and compliance with treatment, which may, in turn, depend on the strength and nature of their personal health values. Discovering whether the strength or degree of patient health values and/or the source or nature of those values (personally-held/internal or socially-held/external) predict patient compliance and outcome could be important for developing service provision.
