Ultrasound for patients in a high HIV/tuberculosis prevalence setting: a needs assessment and review of focused applications for Sub-Saharan Africa

•Ultrasound (US) is often used in HIV/TB patients and frequently changes management.•Focused assessment with sonography for HIV/TB (FASH) is the most commonly used US application.•FASH is relatively easy to learn and contributes to treatment changes.•It is thus a suitable application for clinical point-of-care US examinations.•Focused cardiac US and deep venous thrombosis (DVT) compression US are other applications used in this patient population.
