Impacts of coastal upwelling off east Vietnam on the regional winds system: An air-sea-land interaction

•This study first quantifies the influence of offshore coastal upwelling off southeast Vietnam (CUEV) on regional wind field.•With the influence of CUEV, the local winds can drop to ∼70% of original level.•The main dynamic linkage of unusual wind response to CUEV is enhancement of sea-breeze.•Onshore sea-breeze will enhance, while the contrast between land and sea is even more striking.•The effects resulting from land-sea boundary should be taken into account.
