•npf and npfr cDNA sequences were cloned from the tsetse fly, G. m. morsitans.•Glomo-NPF concentration-dependently activates Glomo-NPFR in cellulo.•Glomo-npfr is expressed in the central nervous system at larval and adult stages.•Glomo-npf mainly expresses in the posterior midgut and brain of adult tsetse flies.
