It's hard to imagine successful fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) companies without optimised supply chains that are aligned to the product, market and company strategy. The two are critical partners, though the supply chain might not be publically praised. Yet, for the process industry, companies that treat materials through chemical, biological and physical processes and include steel, chemical, food and beverage, pulp, paper, mining, pharmaceuticals and tobacco, the story is rather different.
