Magnetic properties of rare-earth orthomanganites having the perovskite structure

An investigation was made of the crystal structure and magnetic properties of the orthomanganites Dy 1−x Ca x MnO 3 (x = 0, 0.2) and A 0.6 Pb 0.4 MnO 3 (A = Tb, Dy). All these perovskites were characterized by O I orthorhombic distortions of the unit cell. In the case of DyMnO 3 at T = 17 K, a susceptibility maximum was observed and it could be attributed to the antiferromagnetic ordering of the magnetic moments. The temperature dependence χ(T) of Dy 0.8 Ca 0.2 MnO 3 had no anomalies. Lead-substituted orthomanganites exhibited a number of properties typical of spin glasses
