•7 i.p. injections of LPS leads to hippocampal tau phosphorylation.•i.p. injections of LPS leads to increased hippocampal tau expression.•Imatinib blocks both increased tau expression and phosphorylation in the hippocampus.•Results suggest inflammation-induced Aβ leads to tau phosphorylation and expression.
