•The estimated c-MET IHC positive rate was 44.0% in NSCLC.•The c-MET expression was significantly correlated with non-SCC and higher tumor stage.•There was significant correlation between c-MET positivity and poor overall survival.•The c-MET IHC showed high diagnostic accuracy for predicting c-Met genetic alteration.
