The Determinants of Poverty in Cape Verde: an Econometric Approach

This article uses household level data collected in 2001-02 to examine the determinants of poverty in Cape Verde employing multivariate regression analysis. The study shows that poverty is strongly associated with the level of education, household size, engagement in agriculture and geographical location, both in rural and urban areas. The results also show that households having female heads are suffering a greater level of poverty. Appropriate recommendations for policy purposes are provided.
