Scale-dependent measurements of meteorite strength: Implications for asteroid fragmentation

•Quasistatic unconfined compression tests were conducted on two meteorites (CV3, H5).•Both meteorites suffered brittle material failure similar to low-porosity concrete.•We develop the first Weibull failure distribution analysis of meteorites.•The derived strength size-dependence of each meteorite fits those of known fireballs.•Terrestrial analogs overestimate the strength of meter-sized asteroidal materials.
