ONE Step is a randomized controlled trial of motivational interviewing (MI) to reduce secondhand smoke exposure of infants discharged from the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). All caregivers who smoke receive ONE Step information, including voluntary referral to QuitLine resources, and a subset enroll in the trial of MI. The rate of enrollment in the trial has been low.
