Impact of the post-2008 economic crisis on harmful drinking in the Dutch working-age population.

•Downward trends in harmful drinking ceased after the start of the post-2008 crisis.•This ceasing-of-decline occurred among men 35–64 years, not among younger men.•A start-of-decline occurred among men 25–34 years and men with low income.•Impacts of crises on harmful drinking can thus vary across population groups.
