The dispersion characteristics of surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) and spoof SPPs of metallic grating are studied. Inside the light cone, the SPP modes are unbound and its energy decays in a form of outgoing propagation waves, whereas outside the light cone the SPP modes are bound with energy confined on the surfaces.
