Evaluation of rapid tests for diagnosis of acute hepatitis E

•Rapid tests for anti-HEV IgM were compared with ELISA and Real-Time PCR assays.•Data suggest the potential use of anti-HEV IgM Rapid assays as a first line test.•Rapid tests can be useful for patients with chronic liver disease or pregnant women.
