Prevalence and risk factors of hip fracture in a middle-aged and older Chinese population.

•This is the first study to estimate the hip fracture prevalence among a nationwide representative sample in China.•We observed marked geographic variation in hip fracture prevalence by different provinces and regions within China.•The related factors of hip fracture were confirmed in our study, such as advanced age, lower education, under-weight.•Our study will be useful in the formulation of hip fracture prevention in China and provide clues for future studies.
