ICU readmission of patients with cancer: Incidence, risk factors and mortality

•About 20% of cancer patients required ICU readmission within the first week of their discharge from the ICU.•The most common readmission diagnoses were respiratory failure and sepsis.•Readmission to the ICU was associated with 3 times the risk of mortality as well as reduced long term overall survival.•Mechanical ventilation and thrombocytopenia, on the first ICU admission were identified as risk factors for readmission.
