•The three most commonly isolated bacteria were E. coli, K. pneumoniae and P. aeruginosa.•E. coli developed resistance to all antibiotics, except amikacin, imipenem, and nitrofurantoin.•K. pnemoniae was resistant to all but meropenem and imipenem.•P. aeruginosa was susceptible only to ceftazidime, imipenem, and nitrofurantoin.•Ampicillin, penicillin, and tetracycline had the highest mean percent resistance
