Generalized Spatial Scattering Modulation for Uplink Millimeter Wave MIMO System

In this paper, generalized spatial scattering modulation (GSSM) scheme is proposed for uplink millimeter wave (mmWave) multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) system. In GSSM, not only the symbol domain information but also the angle domain information is exploited in the transmission signal to improve spectral efficiency. Based on the characteristic of GSSM transmit signal, we propose maximum weight priority maximum likelihood (MWP-ML) detector which is based on the idea of step-by-step detection. Firstly, the principle of MWP is used to determine the angle domain information. Then, ML detector is used to detect symbol domain information by minimizing the Euclidean distance of received signal. Moreover, we analyze the complexity of the proposed algorithm. Simulation results show that the GSSM scheme can achieve higher spectral efficiency with low-order symbol modulation, and MWP-ML algorithm contributes to better bit error rate (BER) performance at lower complexity for GSSM scheme.
