Analysis of potential cyanide antidote, dimethyl trisulfide, in whole blood by dynamic headspace gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy.

•DMTS is a promising next-generation cyanide antidote.•It requires small blood volumes (50 μL) and can detect 0.04 μM (LOD) of DMTS.•The sample preparation is fast (10 min), simple, and economical.•Impressive pharmacokinetic behavior of DMTS was demonstrated in rats.•The method presented should be considered the “gold-standard” for DMTS analysis.
