On HEVC Robustness to Integer Motion Estimation Pruning
2018 25th IEEE International Conference on Electronics, Circuits and Systems (ICECS)(2018)
摘要
The HEVC standard introduced new tools to improve the encoding efficiency of video coding. However, those tools result in a high complexity that hampers the design of fast and energy-efficient encoders. In this work, we call into question the impact of the Integer Motion Estimation (IME) to the overall HEVC coding efficiency. We analyze how the encoder changes its behavior to handle extreme conditions where IME may not be performed for all the symmetric partitions. The analysis of the tradeoff between complexity and coding efficiency reveals an average of 67.16% IME complexity reduction at the expense of 4.63% BD-Rate.
