Psychological distress is related to poor health behaviours in COPD and non-COPD patients: Evidence from the CanCOLD study.

•This study showed significant relationships between depression and anxiety symptoms and smoking habits in patients with and at risk for COPD.•This study also showed significant relationships between high levels of depression and anxiety symptoms and lower physical activity levels in these individuals.•This cohort is extremely well characterized in terms of clinical detail, as well as being one of the largest cohorts of COPD patients.•Clinicians should screen for depression & anxiety symptoms, in order to inform likelihood of uptake and maintenance of positive health behaviours.
