Polyethylene glycol (PEG) and other bioactive solutions with neurorrhaphy for rapid and dramatic repair of peripheral nerve lesions by PEG-fusion.

•PEG-fusion: neurorrhaphy and pharmaceutical solutions, including polyethylene glycol (PEG).•PEG-fusion immediately re-establishes axonal continuity across lesion sites.•Wallerian degeneration is prevented for axons that are successfully PEG-fused.•PEG-fusion restores lost behavioral functions much better than neurorrhaphy alone.•PEG-fusion protocols must be appropriately followed to produce significant recovery.
