Vitamin D protects against hippocampal apoptosis related with seizures induced by kainic acid and pentylenetetrazol in rats.

•The hippocampus is susceptible to damage caused by the seizures.•Seizures induced by kainic acid (KA) and pentylenetetrazol (PTZ) lead to hippocampal apoptosis in rats.•Vitamin D has a protective effect on hippocampal apoptosis related with KA and PTZ.
