A Novel Ranging Algorithm for RSS-Based Localization

A novel RSS-based range estimation algorithm is proposed to improve the accuracy of range-based localization methods. The proposed ranging algorithm first determines a potential blind node location and uses it to establish trilateration error (TE) matrix of the measured distances. The proposed trilateration-based range estimate (TRE) algorithm then adjusts the measured distances to minimize by norm of the TE matrix. Simulation results demonstrate the performance advantage of the proposed ranging algorithm over simple path-loss inversion and Bayesian ranging when used with either the trilateration or iterative least squares positioning algorithm.
