•Systematic pre-operative CT screening might reduce the risk of post-operative stroke in MIMVS.•Pre-operative CT screening might decrease the risk of new need for post-operative hemodialysis.•Moreover, the use of pre-operative CT scans led to a trend towards decreased operative mortality.
