Effect of genipin crosslinked layer-by-layer self-assembled coating on the thermal stability, flammability and wash durability of cotton fabric.

•The cotton fabrics were treated with genipin crosslinked (PEI/HACH)n coating.•C-(PEI/HACH)10-crosslink extinguished the fire in horizontal burning test.•The PHRR and THR of C-(PEI/HACH)10 were reduced significantly.•The genipin crosslinked (PEI/HACH) n coating exhibited good wash durability.
