•Rice bran enzymatic extract (RBEE) reduced 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A reductase activity and increased cholesterol excretion.•RBEE reduced atherosclerotic plaque burden and improved lipid profile.•RBEE exerted antiinflammatory properties.•RBEE reduced liver steatosis.•RBEE effects were stronger in high-fat diet.
