•The constructed bicitronic expression vector can mediates IBDV VP2366 and chicken IL-7 expressions.•Coadministration of IL-7 gene with VP2366 DNA vaccine can enhance DNA vaccine immunogenicity.•IL-7-induced receptor γ chain (γc) expressions might be related to its enhancement.
