Screening utility of a rapid non-invasive dry eye assessment algorithm.

•Diagnostic accuracy of a rapid non-invasive dry eye assessment algorithm based on study of 235 participants.•TFOS DEWS II dry eye diagnostic battery formed the reference standard.•Global evaluation screening algorithm consisted of the SANDE questionnaire, and non-invasive tear film breakup time.•The optimal diagnostic cut-off was SANDE ≥ 30, and non-invasive tear film breakup time <10 s.•At the optimal diagnostic cut-off, the overall sensitivity of the algorithm was 86%, and the specificity 94%.
