Factors that impact on the burden of Escherichia coli bacteraemia: Multivariable regression analysis of 2011-2015 data from West London.

Multidrug resistance, increased age, and comorbidities were the main drivers of adverse outcome. The overall incidence of E. coli bacteraemia and the incidence of cases that were antibiotic-resistant increased over time. The increase in bacteraemia was predominantly driven by an increase in community-onset infections, and initiatives aimed at prevention of these cases should be a major focus for attempts to reduce the quantitative burden of E. coli infection.
