•The amplitude of P300 was higher in the bimodal task than in the unimodal tasks in both groups.•The P300 amplitude in the bimodal task was reduced in individuals with depression compared to the controls.•The P300 amplitude in the bimodal task was negatively correlated with HAM-D scores.
